“A man
without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”- Thomas Carlyle
What this statement is indicating is that someone without
goals in life will not be able to clearly determine where they are headed, much
like a ship without the rudder that gives it direction. Goals give us a sense
of direction, as we will do just about anything in order to reach those goals
no matter what it takes. A ship is very much alike because without its rudder
there would be no determining in which direction it will move. An example of
the meaning of the statement is, for example, when we set a goal to be something
later on in life whether it is a lawyer or something else. With the goal kept
in mind, we are able to follow the path that will lead us there.
