Basketball

Basketball

Basketball is a very popular game around the world, especially in the United States. It is believed that the early origins of the game were traced back to ancient Aztec and Mayas whom instead of a rubber ball used the skulls of their enemies. The first real game of basketball was played in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 20th 1892. It was created my James Naismith. The reason he came up with that games was for YMCA to play during the winter. He came up with very basic rules and used two peach baskets as hoops. When the first games of basketball began to be played the YMCA did not have enough money to design a new ball so they used a regular soccer ball. Most of the rules invented by Naismith are not used today, only about nine of the initial rules are used in today’s basketball.
