Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Eric Smallridge was given the opportunity to redeem his mistakes when forgiveness was brought upon the heart of Renee. One night, after carelessly drinking and driving, Eric hit a car that contained two twenty-year old girls, Megan and Lisa. Both of the girls were killed immediately after the impact. After the accident Eric was sentenced to twenty years in prison for the murder of both girls. Suddenly, one day a woman came forth asking the judge to reduce Eric’s imprisonment time. The most surprising thing was that the woman who was asking for this was none other than Megan’s mom. The judge obliged and soon Lisa’s family also came to forgive Eric for his enormous mistake and for taking the girl's lives that horrific night. Currently, both Eric and Renee visit various high schools in order to give their testimony and to help people understand that drinking and driving only brings tragedies to everyone around the person who drinks. Subconsciously, they both are teaching the power of forgiveness and how it can truly go on to heal one’s heart.

Student Success Statement

“When deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive.”- Alan Paton

What this marvelous quote really means is that when we are able to get past hatred or resentment, we begin to feel good on the inside which essentially contributes to us having an amazingly wonderful life without any anger in our hearts. The feeling that forgiveness gives us is indescribable and truly rewarding. Forgiving is one of the easiest things we can do every day in order for our happiness to be able to blossom. We can forgive those whom have hurt us deeply either with words or with physical actions. We can forgive for the little actions as well as for the greater ones.
